Kubel & Bylund interprets LINUM.
We meet Kubel and Bylund in a typical Swedish meadow landscape, where they have created an oasis for rest. We sink down among the pillows and bedspreads and let soft velvet become a comfortable base. The interpretation is like a homage to nature, where LINUM's clean product range gets to play a supporting role.
You have worked with the velvet collection PAOLO in your interpretation, how did you experience it?
It is lovely! Mixing velvet together with slightly coarser linen or cotton really has something. Both the pillows and the bedspread are fantastically nice to add to most things. It becomes a soft look and feel that we really love.
What is your relationship to home textiles?
Textile is everything, haha, no but almost? It does so incredibly much for a room and for a feeling. Textiles are what make the room homely and cozy and create that cozy warm impression. Working layer upon layer with textiles is so beautiful, whether it comes to a made-up bed that gets several layers or pillows that are mixed in different colours and sizes.
What role does the bedroom play in your everyday life?
A bedroom is somehow the coziest room in the house, or it should be anyway... Here we want peace. We both love being out in nature and live close to nature so with this job we wanted to create a bedroom in one of the most relaxing places we know, a large meadow.
How do you know each other and how do you usually work together?
We have known each other all our lives as our parents were and are friends long before we were even born. We have been working together for about 10 years now so you could say we are a well-knit team.
What is actually the most challenging thing when you have a creative job?
Being creative to order can sometimes be challenging, especially when one job replaces another. Something we have learned is to work appropriately to keep creativity up and at a high level. If we work too little, we lose ourselves completely, or if it's too much, we might lose that little extra. So the balance is clearly a challenge. Giving yourself breathing space and time to do nothing at all is also extremely important, as this is usually when all creative ideas are born.
Kubel & Bylund’s top recommendations!
1. Add textiles in the home! Just do it!
2. Try to find some kind of red thread through your home. It may sound difficult, but can be as simple as having one colour on moldings and lining in one room and a piece of furniture, carpet or maybe just cushions in the same colour in another. In this way, you get a consistently nice feeling and that everything is connected.
3. Choose things you love, it's easy to think that you should fill an entire home in fifteen minutes, but let it take some time and slowly fill it with things you really like.
