At LINUM, we love when our products literally find a home. Our cushion covers, pillowcases, napkins, and bedspreads are meant for the real world, away from the online stores and stylized shops. That’s why it’s always exciting to get to meet the customer, the person behind the purchase, and to find out how that person used our beloved brand to achieve their design.
In this series, we meet people who’ve been LINUM’s loyal customers for so many years. The people who have chosen to invest in sustainable, natural materials with care and love and who’ve chosen to design their homes with thoughtfulness and sensitivity. You can see their lives reflected in their homes. No matter if they’re in the city, countryside, an apartment, or a summer house, we’re there with them.
LINUM MEETS THE BERGDAHL/SVENSSON FAMILY IN HÄGGEBY.
Malin Bergdahl worked with the LINUM brand for many years. During her time on the team, she developed the international customer service function, consolidated all the administration, and established head office in Stockholm. The family is currently looking for a new home in Dalarna, and a new phase of life is about to begin, which is why they are selling their beautiful house in Häggeby, west of Stockholm. We got a chance to talk with Malin and hear more about their LINUM home.
The Bergdahl/Svensson family.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO MOVE OUT?
We’ve decided to move to Rättvik in Dalarna, which is where Andreas, my husband, has his roots, because we want to be able to spend more time with our family and to live in a place where at least one of us feels more at home. We are so excited about that sense of belonging in the community, where you meet people you know at the grocery store or in the street and actually have a conversation. Rättvik is a big tourist spot, where Midsummer is an obvious staple, which we’re looking forward to. We want to find a home that is more rural but ideally one that is within cycling distance of restaurants and grocery stores.
TELL US ABOUT THE HOUSE. WHEN DID YOU MOVE IN?
We moved here in October 2017. The house was built in 1922 and is the kind of house that I’ve always dreamed of: a beautiful red hue with four tiled and one wood-burning stove in the kitchen, high ceilings, and a beautiful veranda. The attics are perfect for storage, and the kitchen is extremely cozy. We also have a lovely big yard with a lot of fruit trees (which is perfect since there is a cider factory on the other side of the field) and a lot of space for our daughters, Siri and Vera, to play and explore.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF LIVING OUTSIDE OF THE CITY?
How peaceful it is, and the fresh air! I grew up in the countryside north of Uppsala and had been missing country life for a long time after living in Los Angeles and Stockholm for so many years. It is amazing to not feel the stress that comes with the traffic and tempo of the city. Even though it does have its own charm, I love being able to go into the city for a few days and then go back home to the peace and quite.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT HÄGGEBY?
I feel like the absolute best thing for me is our living room. Being able to light a fire in the beautiful tiled stove in the fall when it’s starting to get colder outside is wonderful. It just makes the house even cozier. I really hope there is one in our next house. Otherwise, we might have to put one in. On top of the fact that we love both the house and yard, Häggeby is also located in a really good spot. Uppsala and Stockholm are about a one-hour car drive away, and Enköping and Västerås aren’t too far away either.
YOU’RE WELL ACQUAINTED WITH LINUM. WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVORITES OVER THE YEARS?
The PAOLO and WEST collections are my all-time favorites. The lovely velvet in PAOLO and the beautiful colors! I’m especially enamored with the amazing bedspreads. I love how heavy they are and how they make the bed look so luxurious.
The WEST linen range is one of my favorites thanks to the beautiful linen that has such an amazing and tactile feel. The quality is wonderful and, again, the beautiful colors fit really nicely into our home. We have tablecloths, napkins, curtains, and cushion covers. The tablecloths are my favorite because they hold up in the wash and don’t need to be ironed. You just have to shake them out after washing them and then hang them up to dry in the laundry room.
INTERMEZZO curtains are also a favorite I have to say. Thin, delicate curtains that let natural light into our living room, which can be combined with the velvet PAOLO curtains for a nice hotel feeling.
WHAT DO YOU THINK LINUM’S STRENGTH IS?
LINUM’s strength is its uniqueness in how it’s created so many beautiful products that work so well together over time. Different colors, materials, and shapes that fit so well together and can be used all year round. I think it is brilliant that LINUM has its own unique color coding system. The fact that all of the products use the system ensures that different collections can always be combined with each other.
